Genome-wide association and functional studies identify a role for matrix Gla protein in osteoarthritis of the hand
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Dec 05, 2017
den Hollander W, et al. - This study was designed to determine novel genes associated with hand osteoarthritis (OA) and to assess the underlying mechanism. In this work, the link between the matrix Gla protein (MGP) variant and increased risk for hand OA was attributed to a lower expression of MGP, which possibly resulted in an increment in the burden of hand OA by decreasing inhibition of cartilage calcification.
