Genetic liability to psychotic experiences and neuropsychotic disorders
JAMA Oct 04, 2019
Legge SE, Jones HJ, Kendall KM, et al. - Researchers performed this cohort study to determine if the genetic liability to psychotic experiences is shared with schizophrenia and/or other neuropsychiatric disorders and traits. In addition, they sought for genetic loci associated with psychotic experiences. They observed a shared genetic liability between psychotic experiences and major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and neurodevelopmental disorders in genetic correlation, polygenic risk score, and copy number variation analyses. In genome-wide association studies, 4 genetic loci were identified that were associated with psychotic experiences including loci in ANK3 and CNR2. Findings thereby suggest sharing of the genetic liability of psychotic experiences with several psychiatric disorders, which include, but is not specific to, schizophrenia.
