Gender and glomerular filtration rate trajectories in children
Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Mar 08, 2020
Bonnéric S, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from the CKD in Children study, to determine different trajectories of eGFR decline as well as to examine the link of gender with eGFR decline. Among 888 patients examined in this study, including 613 and 275 with nonglomerular and glomerular diseases, respectively, experts identified four and two distinct GFR trajectories, respectively. In this study, distinct trajectories of CKD progression in children were revealed. CKD progression was shown to be faster in women among patients with glomerular diseases, but there was no significant gender variation in patients having nonglomerular diseases. Gender disparities in the underlying primary kidney disease and in baseline GFR, rather than direct influence of gender on progression, appeared to likely explain the differences in progression.
