Future risk of metabolic syndrome in women with a previous LGA delivery stratified by gestational glucose tolerance: A prospective cohort study
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Aug 16, 2018
Hakkarainen H, et al. - A prospective cohort study was performed to examine the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components in women with or without a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) with a view to the birth weight of the offspring. Participants in the study were 876 women whose pregnancies were treated in Kuopio University Hospital, Finland, in 1989–2009. Researchers found that a large-for-gestational-age (LGA) delivery in women with GDM was related to a higher risk of future MetS and this group was optimal to study preventive measures for MetS. It was noted that an LGA delivery after a normoglycemic pregnancy was not correlated with an increased future maternal MetS risk.
