Fragility of epidermis: Acne and post-procedure lesional skin
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Sep 20, 2017
Fabbrocini G, et al. - This study strived to illustrate the prevalence of fragile skin in three geographical regions. It inspected the efficacy and tolerability of dermo-cosmetics in combination with topical acne therapy and following physical skin damage. The iatrogenic effects of topical acne treatments could yield poor compliance or use of over-the-counter moisturizers. This appeared to reduce the treatment efficacy. Dermo-cosmetics assisted in the restoration of fragile skin arising from the acne topical retinoid treatment adapalene 0.1% gel, by reducing transepidermal water loss and improving skin hydration. It also reduced the side-effects such as skin irritation commonly related with topical retinoids. Dermo-cosmetic products possibly accelerated the wound closure following skin damage in a laser ablation model and reduced the duration of post-procedural side-effects such as itching and burning.
