Food insecurity and adult weight abnormality risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Nutrition Sep 20, 2018
Moradi S, et al. – Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 31 studies to investigate the link between food insecurity and weight abnormality in adults. Studies were identified via search of PubMed and Scopus databases, up to February 2018. Adults in food-secure households were found to be at higher risk of obesity, particularly women. Additional findings indicated that weight abnormality may increase with intensification of the level of food insecurity, and economic development is an important factor in the effect of food insecurity on weight status. The researchers acknowledged, however, that these outcomes should be interpreted with caution due to the high heterogeneity among studies.
