Fluconazole resistance is not a predictor of poor outcome in patients with cryptococcosis
Mycoses Apr 17, 2019
Vena A, et al. - In this study, researchers studied the significance of fluconazole resistance in poor outcome in subjects with cryptococcus. The percentage of cryptococcal strains with MIC values of 16 or more μg/mL according to different methods was CLSI 1.6%, EUCAST 16.1%, E test 31.6%, and Sensititre YeastOne 53.2%. No link between clinical outcomes and any MIC value obtained with either method was noted among the 16 fluconazole-treated patients. Presence of disseminated disease was the only unique variable independently associated with a poor outcome.
