Five-year cumulative incidence and risk factors of Nd:YAG capsulotomy in 10,044 hydrophobic acrylic 1-piece and 3-piece intraocular lenses
American Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 04, 2019
Lindholm JM, et al. - Researchers evaluated 10,044 eyes to analyze the 5-year cumulative incidence and risk factors of Nd:YAG capsulotomy between hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs) in this retrospective cohort study. They observed 13.2% of the 5-year cumulative incidence of Nd:YAG capsulotomy after cataract surgery for all eyes and 18.1%, 11.5%, and 9.6% for ZCB00, SN60WF, and ZA9003 IOLs, respectively. After accounting for other predictors, they found an association of implantation of SN60WF and ZA9003 IOLs with a 38% and 47% subhazard reduction (SHR), respectively, as compared to ZCB00. They recorded an association of inclined risk of Nd:YAG capsulotomy with eyes of subjects of age lesser than 60 years, female gender, and eyes implanted with an IOL of <22.5 diopters power.
