American Journal of Ophthalmology Mar 11, 2021
Choudhari NS, Khanna RC, Marmamula S, et al. - In this population-based longitudinal incidence rate study, researchers reported on the 15-year incidence of primary angle-closure disease (PACD) among candidates ≥ 40 years in rural southern India. The sample consisted of phakic participants aged 40 years or more who partook in both examination time points. Data collected from 1,197 (81.4% out of available 1,470) participants were analyzed to calculate the incidence of the disease. Female sex was a major risk factor in logistic regression analysis, while myopia was a protective factor. This investigation reports long term incidence of PACD from rural India. It has implications for eye healthcare policies, strategies, and planning.
