Fibromyalgianess and glucocorticoid persistence among patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatology Jul 27, 2021
Wallace BI, Moore MN, Heisler AC, et al. - In this study, the association between fibromyalgianess and glucocorticoid persistence among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients was explored. Participants with active RA on oral prednisone were followed for ∼3 months after initiating a new disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug. Researchers assessed fibromyalgianess using the Fibromyalgia Survey Questionnaire, previously shown to correlate with key fibromyalgia features often superimposed upon RA. In this study, 65% were still taking prednisone at follow-up, out of the 97 participants on prednisone at baseline. It was shown that high fibromyalgianess is correlated with persistent glucocorticoid use, independent of inflammatory activity.
