FGF23 concentration and APOL1 genotype are novel predictors of mortality in African Americans with type 2 diabetes

Chan GC, et al. - In African AmericanÂDiabetes Heart Study participants, researchers sought for novel and conventional predictors of mortality. Accounting for conventional risk factors, higher fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) concentrations and apolipoprotein L1 genotypes (APOL1) nonÂrenal-risk genotypes associated with higher mortality in these individuals. Data thereby supported the association of FGF23 with mortality.
