Fatigue lifetime prediction of a reduced-diameter dental implant system: Numerical and experimental study

Dental Materials Jun 21, 2018

Duan Y, et al. - By testing physical implant specimens using an accelerated lifetime testing (ALT) strategy with the apparatus specified by ISO 14801, researchers validated the fatigue lifetime of a reduced-diameter dental implant system predicted by three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). As per this work, predicting fatigue lifetime based on finite element modeling could generate similar results in lieu of physical testing. Fractographic examination of failure origin agreed with finite element predictions. The stiffness of holder material seemed to influence fatigue lifetime.
