Fasciotomy for chronic exertional compartment syndrome of the leg: Clinical outcome in a large retrospective cohort

European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology Aug 30, 2018

Tam JPH, et al. - Researchers evaluated the functional outcome and patient satisfaction post-fasciotomy in patients with chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS). They also identified any potential correlation between intracompartmental pressure (ICP) and reported levels of pain. In CECS patients, the pain was significantly reduced with fasciotomy and activity levels were increased. They noted a positive association od ICP with patient-reported pain. Verbal rating scale (VRS) pain and ICP were seen to have a significant moderate positive correlation.
