Family history and breast cancer risk among older women in the breast cancer surveillance consortium cohort
JAMA Internal Medicine Feb 16, 2018
Braithwaite D, et al. - An analysis was performed to determine whether first-degree family history was correlated with increased risk of breast cancer among older women. Furthermore, the authors identified whether the association varied by breast density. Among all subgroups of older women, first-degree family history was correlated with increased risk of invasive breast cancer irrespective of a relative’s age at diagnosis. The risk associated with first-degree family history was highest among women aged 65 to 74 years, among women with fatty breasts. On the other hand, in women aged 75 years and older, the risk associated with family history was highest out of those with dense breasts.
