Failure to conceive in women with CF is associated with pancreatic insufficiency and advancing age
Journal of Cystic Fibrosis Jun 27, 2019
Shteinberg M, et al. - Researchers examined women with CF (cystic fibrosis) for the prevalence and factors associated with female subfertility. They conducted a retrospective multinational study of 605 women with CF from 11 CF centers in 5 countries (Israel, France, Spain, Italy, UK). Attempts for pregnancy were reported in 241/605 women. These included 84 (35%) females with subfertility; of these, 67 eventually became pregnant. These findings suggest a higher prevalence of subfertility among women with CF (35%) than the expected 5–15% subfertility in the general population. Among women with CF, subfertility was observed to be correlated to older age and pancreatic insufficiency.
