Failure of initial disease control in bullous pemphigoid: A retrospective study of hospitalized patients in a single tertiary center
International Journal of Dermatology Sep 02, 2017
Kremer N, et al. – This study aspired to investigate the rate of bullous pemphigoid (BP) patients requiring adjuvant therapy to achieve initial disease control and to determine the potential predictors for recalcitrant disease. The data revealed low frequency of recalcitrant BP (6.1%) and the rarity of involvement of the oral mucosa (1.8%). This indicated that Israeli BP patients displayed a milder phenotype than similar patients from other geographic areas. Hypertension, head involvement, and metformin therapy prominently correlated with the adjuvant therapy requirement for yielding initial control. Hence, these parameters could serve as predictors of therapeutic response in BP.
