Factors influencing the decision for fresh vs cryopreserved microdissection testicular sperm extraction for non-obstructive azoospermia
Urology Jul 31, 2021
Asanad K, Coward RM, Mehta A, et al. - Reproductive urologists’ (RU) practice patterns for microdissection testicular sperm extraction (microTESE) were determined and factors linked with usng fresh vs frozen microTESE for non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) were investigated. A total of 208 surveys were sent to Society for Study of Male Reproduction members with 76 responses. Relative to fresh, frozen microTESE is carried out more commonly, despite most RU preferring fresh microTESE in an ideal setting. In reproductive care, both fresh and frozen microTESE play a role. Cost, scheduling and andrologist availability are the identified barriers to performing fresh microTESE.
