Factors associated with surgical treatment of nondisplaced or minimally displaced scaphoid waist fractures
The Journal of Hand Surgery Dec 10, 2020
Zhang D, et al. - The present study was conducted to ascertain if there are identifiable factors correlated with the surgical treatment of nondisplaced or minimally displaced scaphoid waist fractures. Between January 2010 and March 2019, researchers distinguished 50 individuals who had undergone nonsurgical treatment and 67 individuals who had undergone surgical treatment of nondisplaced or minimally displaced scaphoid waist fractures at 2 tertiary care referral centers in a single metropolitan area in the United States. They applied Bivariate analysis to screen for factors correlated with surgical treatment. They used multivariable stepwise logistic regression to ascertain factors correlated with surgical treatment of a nondisplaced or minimally displaced scaphoid fracture. In comparison with female and unemployed patients, male and employed patients have increased odds of undergoing scaphoid surgery for nondisplaced or minimally displaced waist fractures. These variations may represent patient preference, surgeon counseling, or a combination. A future trial is required to understand the etiology of this gender difference.
