Facial photoprotection in xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) patients: Validation of a new self-reported questionnaire of adherence
Photodermatology, Photoimmunology and Photomedicine Feb 09, 2020
Canfield M, Norton S, Walburn J, et al. - In people diagnosed with xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder, researchers validated a self-reported measure of adherence to face photoprotection. Patients (n = 66) diagnosed with XP (nearly 65% of the total XP population in the UK) were recruited from the patient list of the XP specialist service in London, UK, completed a questionnaire of adherence to specific photoprotection behaviours. No association was found between the level of face photoprotection and self-reported avoidance of going outside. Findings suggested that the questionnaire was accurate, and it had strong convergent validity with other photoprotection indicators. This questionnaire might help clinicians detect low adherence levels, and the methodology used to develop validated questionnaires for other photosensitive conditions.
