Exploration of predictive biomarkers for sudden unexplained cardiac death in nonelderly people: A case-control study with biochemical parameters related to heart failure
American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology Apr 23, 2018
Kentaro S, et al. - Researchers sought to analyze if values of the biomarkers for heart failure are associated with the Sudden unexplained cardiac death (SUCD). In this study, nonelderly people with epilepsy or psychiatric disorders who suffered from SUCD showed significantly high serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels. Psychiatric patients with schizophrenia also showed higher concentrations of hs-CRP when compared to the control group or patients with the other psychiatric diseases. In the group of no medical history, significant increase of hs-CRP levels was not found. The serum levels of NT-proBNP and TNF-α did not demonstrate a significant difference in the SUCD subgroups, either. Results thereby suggest that the elevation of the serum hs-CRP levels might suggest the risk for SUCD in the nonelderly patients with epilepsy or psychiatric disorders.
