Evidence for the utility of antenatal HbA1c to predict early postpartum diabetes after gestational diabetes in South Africa
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Jul 07, 2018
Coetzee A, et al. - Among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), researchers evaluated antenatal HbA1c at diagnosis and in the 4 weeks preceding delivery to predict early postpartum diabetes mellitus (DM). For this investigation, 78 women with GDM were prospectively assessed. Between November 1, 2015 and November 1, 2016, glucose assessment was performed at Tygerberg Hospital (TH), Cape Town, South Africa (SA). In women with GDM, HbA1c lower than 6.5% (48mmol/mol) predicted postpartum DM. The study findings suggested that HbA1c can serve as an instrument to improve postpartum follow-up.
