Evaluation of RESPOND, a patient-centred program to prevent falls in older people presenting to the emergency department with a fall: A randomised controlled trial

PLoS Medicine Jun 08, 2019

Barker A, et al. – Researchers conducted a randomized, controlled trial to investigate the impact of a 6-month telephone-based patient-centered program called RESPOND on the falls and fall injuries of older people showing up to the emergency department after a fall. Home-based risk assessment, 6 months of telephone-based education, coaching, goal setting, support for evidence-based risk factor management, and linkages to existing services were included in the program. There was a reduced number of falls following the telephone-based patient-centered program. A reduction in a number of fractures was also noted. No unintended harm or adverse events were reported.
