Evaluation of fluocinolone acetonide 0.19 mg intravitreal implant in the management of birdshot retinochoroiditis
British Journal of Ophthalmology Dec 02, 2020
Ajamil-Rodanes Sofia, Testi I, Luis J, et al. - In this single-centre, retrospective, interventional case series, researchers reported treatment outcomes and effectiveness of the fluocinolone acetonide 0.19 mg intravitreal implant (Iluvien) in controlling retinal and choroidal inflammation in 11 patients with birdshot retinochoroiditis. With an average follow-up of 31 months (range 12–36 months), 15 eyes received Iluvien implant. Retinal function improved and macular function improved or remained unchanged in the majority of patients following treatment. The findings indicate the potential therapeutic role of Iluvien in the management of Birdshot-related vascular leakage, cystoid macular oedema and retinal dysfunction. However, choroidal lesions tend to continue without a detectable response to treatment.
