Evaluation of corneal structure and endothelial morphological characteristics in type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic patients
Clinical Ophthalmology Jul 17, 2020
Beato JN, Esteves-Leandro J, Reis D, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to compare the corneal structure and endothelial morphological characteristics between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and non-diabetic patients and explore whether the DM duration, glycated hemoglobin levels, and diabetic retinopathy stage affect corneal morphological properties. The sample consisted of 60 diabetic patients and 47 age- and sex-matched controls. The present study identified no statistically relevant variations between the corneal structural and endothelial features of diabetic and non-diabetic individuals. Other demographical parameters like age and gender, appear to be more determinant for the corneal properties.
