Evaluating the relative value of intraoperative aberrometry vs current formulas for toric IOL sphere, cylinder, and orientation planning
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Oct 04, 2019
Solomon KD, et al. - Researchers sought to review the outcomes of toric intraocular lens (IOL) retrospectively and compare actual results in normal eyes with those expected from preoperative calculations and intraoperative aberrometry (IA). From two previous clinical studies of normal eyes receiving toric IOL implants, toric IOL planning data and results were obtained. For 132 eyes receiving two different toric IOLs, toric IOL planning data and clinical outcomes were analyzed. Findings suggested that the use in normal eyes of current-generation formulas for sphere power and toric IOL planning seems to be enough to produce clinical outcomes with toric IOLs that are as good or better than those achieved using IA.
