Evaluating risk factors following surgery for periprosthetic fractures around hip and knee arthroplasties
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Dec 12, 2018
Orfanos G, et al. - Authors sought to identify the associations between survival post-injury and pre-existing comorbidities in hip and knee arthroplasties. Findings suggested an association of periprosthetic fractures with a high mortality risk. With careful optimisation and surgical planning, operative risks can be minimised. They noted an association of ASA, age and comorbidities (dementia, CVA or TIA, osteoporosis) with survival post-injury. Therefore, for operative treatment careful patient selection is advised.
