Epidemiology and prognostic factors for mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome in a multi-ethnic Asian cohort: A 12-year review
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Mar 01, 2019
Lim HLJ, et al. - Investigators examined 246 participants from 2000 to 2011 in this retrospective review to analyze the epidemiology, outcome and prognostic factors in subjects with mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome. They recorded complete response to treatment among 78.2%, partial response in 9.6%, a resolute but non-progressive disease in 10.0% and disease progression in 4.1% of subjects. They noted large cell transformation in 4.1% of cases. Male gender, early disease stage (T1) at diagnosis and absence of maintenance treatment after remission. were the prognostic factors correlated with desirable recurrence-free survival. They diagnosed MF in Southeast Asians at a younger age as compared to Caucasian and East Asian cohorts which were associated with lower mortality, largely due to a higher prevalence of hypopigmented MF.
