TERT promoter mutations in solitary fibrous tumor
Histopathology Jul 13, 2018
Demicco EG, et al. - Given that TERT promoter mutations have been reported in 22% of solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) and have been correlated with poor outcomes, the researchers conducted testing for TERT hotspot mutations in a large series of solitary fibrous tumors in order to verify this finding and investigate clinicopathologic correlates of mutation status. They discovered that TERT promoter mutations were more frequent in SFT with a higher risk of metastasis. However, TERT promoter mutation status was not a reliable predictor of clinical outcome by itself. In further stratifying patients with intermediate risk tumors, mutations in the TERT promoter could be beneficial.
