APOL1 kidney risk variants and cardiovascular disease: An individual participant data meta-analysis
Journal of the American Society of Nephrology Aug 09, 2019
Grams ME, Surapaneni A, Ballew SH, et al. - With 21,305 black patients from eight large cohorts, researchers undertook this two-stage individual participant data meta-analysis to evaluate the link of apo L1 gene (APOL1) kidney-risk variants with adjudicated cardiovascular disease events and mortality, independent of kidney measures. There were 2,076 incident cardiovascular disease events documented in 16,216 individuals without cardiovascular disease at study enrollment over a follow-up of 8.9 ± 5.0 years. Findings revealed no association of APOL1 kidney-risk variants with incident cardiovascular disease or death independent of kidney measures.
