Elevated vitamin B12 levels and cancer risk in UK primary care: A THIN database cohort study
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Jan 18, 2019
Arendt JF, et al. - Given the association of elevated vitamin B12 levels with increased short-term cancer risk, researchers assessed the implications for early cancer detection in primary care. Using The Health Improvement Network primary care database, United Kingdom, they identified 33,367 incident cancers during 2,874,059 years of follow-up among 757,185 individuals. They noted a higher 1-year cancer risk in association with elevated plasma B12 levels vs normal B12 levels among individuals seen in UK primary care, suggesting that some cancer types may affect B12 metabolism.
