Elevated glycohemoglobin HbA1c is associated with low back pain in non-overweight diabetics

The Spine Journal Jun 06, 2018

Real A, et al. - Experts ascertained whether there was an association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and low back pain (LBP) that was independent of BMI in a large cohort of adult survey participants. Findings suggested a significant association of LBP to DM status, but this relationship was seen to be complex and could interact with BMI. The concept that LBP may be improved in normal weight diabetic subjects with improved glycemic control and weight loss, and that all obese LBP subjects could benefit from improved weight loss alone was supported in the findings.
