Efficacy of yoga vs cognitive behavioral therapy vs stress education for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder
JAMA Aug 16, 2020
Simon NM, Hofmann SG, Rosenfield D, et al. - In 226 adults with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial examining the effectiveness of yoga (Kundalini yoga), as well as of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), for GAD vs stress education (control). Further they investigated if yoga is noninferior to CBT in the treatment of GAD. Relative to the stress education control condition, 12-week group treatment with either Kundalini yoga or CBT was identified to be more effective. However, Kundalini yoga was not found tobe to be as effective as CBT for GAD. While findings here suggest Kundalini yoga as possibly effective in reducing anxiety in these adults, they still support CBT as first-line treatment.
