Efficacy of plasma exchange for antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated systemic vasculitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Arthritis Research & Therapy Jan 21, 2021
Yamada Y, Harada M, Hara Y, et al. - A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to evaluate if plasma exchange (PE) is correlated with prognosis in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) patients. Researchers carried out to search PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL databases from inception to 17 June 2020. Researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis targeting all AAV patients, including microscopic polyangiitis, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. Performing PE was not associated with the risk of mortality, clinical remission, and adverse event in AAV patients. No RCT exists assessing the effectiveness of PE for eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis; hence, this is needed in the future. The outcomes may influence the development of guidelines for AAV and may demonstrate the direction of future clinical research on AAV.
