Efficacy of microneedling vs fractional non-ablative laser to treat striae alba: A randomized study
American Journal of Clinical Dermatology Apr 12, 2019
Naspolini AP, et al. - To examine the efficiency of a neodymium:yttrium–aluminum–perovskite 1340 nm non-ablative fractional laser (NAFL) vs the microneedling (MN) technique in the treatment of striae alba (SA), researchers estimated the longitudinally divided abdominal surface of 20 females. They evaluated the photographs and skin biopsies obtained during pretreatment and after the third as well as fifth treatment sessions. With no significant difference between the modalities, collagen and elastic fibers were significantly increased following third and fifth treatment sessions. After the third and fifth treatment sessions, significant improvement was noted in Dermatology Life Quality Index scores, with average values of 8.4 (standard error [SE] ± 1.21), 3.17 (SE ± 0.55), and 2.64 (SE ± 0.60), respectively. They suggested MN, a beneficial non-technology-dependent, low-cost alternative treatment for SA.
