Efficacy of methotrexate in reducing the risk of bone erosion in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials
Osteoporosis International Apr 17, 2021
Destiani DP, Naja S, Dewi S, et al. - This study was intended to present a systematic review of methotrexate (MTX) effectiveness in reducing the risk of bone erosion. Researchers examined randomized controlled trial studies that involved MTX monotherapy or MTX in combination with placebo. They analyzed that assessment of the progression of bone erosion by radiographic assessment such as total Sharp score or van der Heijde score, joint space narrowing, erosion score, and proportion of radiographic nonprogressors. This study’s findings demonstrate that MTX could slow down the progression of bone erosion based on a radiographic score of less than 0.5–1/year.
