Efficacy of digital cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of insomnia symptoms among pregnant women: A randomized clinical trial
JAMA Jan 29, 2020
Felder JN, et al. - In this randomized clinical trial, researchers tested the effectiveness of digital cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) vs standard treatment among pregnant women with insomnia symptoms. For this investigation, 208 pregnant women [mean (SD) age of 33.6 (3.7) years and a mean (SD) gestational age of 17.6 (6.3) weeks at baseline] were randomized to receive digital CBT-I (n = 105) or standard treatment (n = 103) for insomnia. Findings suggested an association of digital CBT for the treatment of insomnia with statistically significantly greater improvements in insomnia symptom severity, sleep efficiency, global sleep quality, insomnia caseness, depressive symptoms, and anxiety symptoms vs standard treatment. For improving insomnia symptoms during pregnancy, digital CBT was an effective, scalable, safe, and acceptable intervention.
