Efficacy and safety of nasal high-flow oxygen in COPD patients

Vogelsinger H, et al. - researchers performed a comparison of safety and efficacy of high-flow oxygen therapy (HFOT) with those of conventional oxygen treatment (COT) in normo- and hypercapnic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. As per findings, in both normocapnic and hypercapnic COPD patients, short-term use of HFOT was safe. Lower oxygen levels seemed effective in correcting hypoxemic respiratory failure and reducing hypercapnia, resulting in a reduced amount of oxygen consumption.
