Efficacy and safety of intralesional injection of vitamin D 3 vs tuberculin PPD in the treatment of plantar warts: A comparative controlled study
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Mar 24, 2021
Ghaly NE, El‐Ashmawy AA, Zeid MA, et al. - Intralesional (IL) vitamin D 3 (Vit.D3) injection and IL tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) injection were compared with respect to their effectiveness and safety in the treatment of plantar warts. Researchers randomly assigned 60 patients with plantar warts into three equal groups: group 1 was provided treatment using IL tuberculin PPD every 2 weeks, group 2 was provided treatment using IL Vit.D 3 every 4 weeks, and group 3 was provided treatment with IL saline every 2 weeks till complete clearance or for a maximum of three sessions. Outcomes yield support for the safety and effectiveness of both IL PPD and Vit.D3 injection for treatment of plantar warts, but a more significant response was seen in Group 2. Relative to IL PPD, IL Vit.D 3 injection had a superior advantage, especially in male patients.
