Efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin or dapagliflozin plus saxagliptin vs glimepiride as add-on to metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Jul 12, 2018
Müller-Wieland D, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes, the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin ± saxagliptin with glimepiride as add-on to metformin were compared in this 52-week, multicenter, double-blind, active-controlled study. Compared with glimepiride plus metformin, dapagliflozin, saxagliptin and metformin improved glycemic control. Add-on of dapagliflozin alone had similar effectiveness to glimepiride. Findings revealed that vs glimepiride, both dapagliflozin regimens reduced body weight and systolic blood pressure, with lower hypoglycemia incidence. It was noted that genital infections were more frequent with dapagliflozin.
