Effects of subtenon-injected autologous platelet-rich plasma on visual functions in eyes with retinitis pigmentosa: Preliminary clinical results
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Mar 22, 2018
Arslan U, et al. - Researchers determined whether subtenon injections of autologous platelet-rich plasma (aPRP) could have beneficial effects on the visual function in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients by reactivating dormant photoreceptors. Encouraging preliminary clinical results were noted in terms of statistically significant improvements in the visual field (VF), multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) values, and microperimetry (MP). As per the data, the subtenon injection of aPRP was seen to be a therapeutic option for treatment and in the vision of RP patients and could lead to positive results. In 1 year follow-up, no serious adverse events and ophthalmic or systemic side effects were noted.
