Effects of prebiotics on postprandial GLP-1, GLP-2 and glucose regulation in patients with type 2 diabetes: A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial
Diabetic Medicine Jul 30, 2021
Birkeland E, Gharagozlian S, Gulseth HL, et al. - This study involved patients suffering from type 2 diabetes in whom the impact of prebiotic inulin-type fructans vs a control supplement on postprandial levels of glucagon-like peptide-1 and -2, glucose, and insulin was investigated. A double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study was undertaken to randomize adult men and women with type 2 diabetes. Among 29 participants, no significant differences in estimated area under the curves were observed between and within the two treatments. The results in this population do not support that an improvement in incretin responses or glucose-regulations is brought about by inulin-type fructans.
