Effects of high-protein diet on glycemic control, insulin resistance and blood pressure in type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Clinical Nutrition Aug 21, 2019
Yu Z, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, researchers analyzed the impacts of a high-protein diet on glycemic control, insulin resistance (IR) and blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The inclusion criteria were met by 12 articles (13 studies), including 1,138 T2DM patients. The data presented in this work showed a high-protein diet does not significantly improve blood pressure and glycemic control but may lower LDL, TC, TG and HOMA-IR levels in T2DM patients. In T2DM patients, further studies are required to clarify the effects of a high-protein diet on glycemic control, IR and blood pressure control.
