Effects of early detection of peritoneal catheter migration on clinical outcomes: 15-years experiences from a single center
Nephrology Jul 05, 2019
Ko YK, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers studied consecutive patients (n=135) starting peritoneal dialysis (PD) immediately after catheter insertion, to determine how clinical outcomes in these subjects were influenced by early detection of catheter migration. The participants were followed-up for a mean duration of 42.8±34.9 months. According to the findings, easy correction of the migrated tip was possible with conservative management in cases where PD catheter migration was early detected. No impact of catheter migration itself on catheter survival was evident after the restoration of the migrated catheter tip. Findings suggested that in order to achieve improved clinical outcomes, it is important that catheter migration is early detected and corrected.
