Effects of dialysate to serum sodium (Na+) alignment in chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients: Retrospective cohort study from a quality improvement project
BMC Nephrology Apr 08, 2018
Raimann JG, et al. - Given favorable effects of dialysate (DNa+) to serum sodium concentration (SNa+) alignment have been shown by evidence, researchers tested the validity of this finding in a retrospective propensity score-matched cohort study from a quality improvement project, wherein they studied the impacts of DNa+ to SNa+ alignment on population of maintenance hemodialysis patients. In this largest sodium alignment program to date, positive treatment impacts on volume-related and hemodynamic parameters were seen, without a clear impact on hospitalization risk. Small effects and lack of significant differences could be explained by a low baseline DNa+ limiting the interventional change.
