Effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of vildagliptin or vildagliptin/metformin combination in patients with type 2 diabetes uncontrolled on insulin therapy in a real-world setting in Egypt: The OMEGA study

El Ebrashy I, et al. - Among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus uncontrolled on insulin in a real-world setting in Egypt, researchers tested the safety and effectiveness of vildagliptin or vildagliptin/metformin combination. Of the 90 patients who were enrolled, 88 finished the study [mean age was 54.7 years]. According to this 12-week, prospective, observational study, vildagliptin as an add-on to insulin with/without metformin resulted in strong glycemic control and was well tolerated without any hypoglycemic events. Adverse events possibly related to the study drug have been mild in severity.
