Effectiveness of trabeculectomy with mitomycin C for glaucomatous eyes with low intraocular pressure on treatment eye drops
Acta Ophthalmologica Jul 31, 2019
Yuasa Y, Sugimoto Y, Hirooka K, et al. - The present analysis was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of current trabeculectomy with mitomycin C in Japan for glaucomatous eyes with low intraocular pressure (IOP). For this investigation, the authors studied 294 eyes of 294 patients with IOP ≤ 21 mmHg before surgery. Data reported that incidences of postoperative hyphema, infection, shallow anterior chamber and bleb leakage were 2.4%, 2.4%, 2.0% and 3.4%, respectively. Investigators found that baseline IOP could be lowered by ≥ 20% in eyes with IOP within the normal range and this could be accomplished with relatively minor complications. In eyes with IOP ≤ 21 mmHg, trabeculectomy can be performed safely.
