Effectiveness of high intensity interval training combined with resistance training vs continuous moderate intensity training combined with resistance training in patients with type 2 diabetes – 1 year randomized controlled trial
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Oct 09, 2018
Magalhães JP, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM), researchers assessed the effect of 1-year high-intensity interval training (HIIT) combined with resistance training (RT) vs continuous moderate intensity training (MCT) plus RT on glycemic control, body composition, and cardiorespiratory fitness in this randomized controlled trial. Participants included 96 patients with T2DM who were enrolled for a 1-year supervised exercise intervention with three distinct groups (control, HIIT with RT, and MCT with RT). The researchers did not observe any effect of either MCT with RT or HIIT with RT on glycemic control. They noted, however, that the combination of MCT with RT improved body composition and cardiorespiratory fitness following 1-year intervention.
