Effectiveness of a vaping cessation text message program among young adult e-cigarette users: A randomized controlled trial
JAMA May 28, 2021
Graham AL, Amato MS, Cha S, et al. - In this study, the efficacy of a text message program for vaping cessation among young adults (YAs) vs assessment-only control was explored. Researchers designed a parallel, 2-group, double-blind, individually randomized clinical trial between December 2019 and November 2020 including a total of 2,588 YA e-cigarette users. They recruited individuals via social media ads, the intervention was delivered via text message, and assessments were completed via website or mobile phone. This study’s findings demonstrate that a tailored and interactive text message intervention was effective in promoting vaping cessation among YAs. Moreover, these outcomes establish a benchmark of intervention effectiveness.
