Effectiveness of a hepatitis B vaccination program at two tertiary hemodialysis centers
Hemodialysis International May 27, 2019
Kufta L, et al. - In this retrospective chart review, researchers quantified response rate to a new hepatitis B vaccination protocol initiated in late 2015, among hemodialysis patients. They also looked at the adherence to protocol as well as factors influencing response rate. In a 3-dose regimen, recombinant hepatitis vaccine (Recombivax HB) 40 μg was delivered at months 0, 1, and 6 to patients with hepatitis B surface antibodies (anti-HBs) <10 mIU/mL. The respective response rates to vaccination were 61.4%, 58.3%, and 81.8%. A significant impact of adherence to protocol on response rate was evident in univariate analysis. Adherence was identified as a significant risk factor. The adherence to the regimen was assessed for the first time in this investigation.
