Effect of weight change on progression of knee OA structural features assessed by MRI in overweight and obese women
Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Aug 27, 2018
Landsmeer MLA, et al. - In overweight and obese women without clinical knee osteoarthritis (OA), authors assessed the impacts of weight change on progression of structural features of knee OA by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Findings found an increase of more than 2.5 times in progression of synovitis in overweight and obese women vs a stable weight subgroup over 2.5 years. For the difference in progression of patellofemoral bone marrow lesions and PF cartilage defects between the weight gain and stable weight subgroup, large effect sizes were also found.
